The Charlotte District is responsible for policing Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, and Wilmington. Cocaine is readily available all across North Carolina. The market for heroin in the state is small except for isolated pockets of users and distributors reported in the larger cities such as Durham, Greenville, High Point, and Rocky Mount. Methamphetamine is increasing in popularity. It is suspected that there are many undiscovered clandestine laboratories in the Greensboro area. Marijuana from both Mexican and local sources continues to be abundant through out the state. North Carolina has a large number of substance abuse and rehabilitation services and addiction treatment options relative to its population. Persons requiring detoxification, methadone maintenance, methadone detoxification, treatment using buprenorphine, or halfway houses should be able to access treatment/counseling/rehabilitative services in North Carolina. Statewide, there are a large number of outpatient programs available and private long-term residential programs are in abundance. Many people living in North Carolina will be able to access some forms of payment assistance or sliding fee scales for treatment, as well as treatment options that are at least partially covered by Medicare, Medicaid, private or Military/VA insurance; and for those who can afford private (self-paid) treatment, many high-quality options exist. Unlike many other states, with high concentrations of treatment options available only in the larger centers, North Carolina has many alcohol and drug treatment centers throughout the entire state. Please phone our helpline and we would be happy to help you find an appropriate program for you or a loved one.
