Nevada Drug Rehab

nevada Drug Rehab

The most feared drug in Nevada is meth, as its use approaches epidemic proportions in Las Vegas and other urban centers. Additionally, cocaine and crack cocaine use is on the rise but the high levels of homelessness makes the more affordable methamphetamine, a far more appealing substitute.

Cocaine is not as readily available in northern Nevada as it is throughout the southern parts. Crack cocaine is easily accessible and plagues urban areas of Nevada.

The most common type of heroin available in the state is black tar which is smuggled in from Mexico. Not only is meth the most feared drug it is also the most commonly abused drug in the state. Nevada imports methamphetamine as well as producing it locally.

Southern cities are having a violent increase in the use of club drugs, like ecstasy and special k or ketamine, and this is a byproduct of the Las Vegas "party all night" attitude.

In June 2001, Assembly Bill 453 was signed into law and made Nevada the ninth state in the U.S. where patients can use marijuana for medicinal purposes. For a state with such high proportion of substance abusers, Nevada has a relatively small number of drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs available to its residents.

Services are available for a number of problems, but waiting lists may be long. Services do exist, however, and there are a number of optional available to addicts in the state. Methadone maintenance and/or detoxification, and treatment using buprenorphine is available in Nevada, as are detoxification programs.

There is an extremely small concentration of hospital inpatient or day patient treatment availability in Nevada; residential long-term care is more prevalent. As to be expected, most addiction treatment options in Nevada are located in Las Vegas and Reno. There are substance abuse treatment centers in the top 10 cities of Nevada.
