  • Illicit drug use in America has been increasing. This is up from 8.3 percent in 2002. The increase mostly reflects a recent rise in the use of marijuana, the most commonly used illicit drug.
  • LSD (AKA: Acid, blotter, cubes, microdot, yellow sunshine, blue heaven, Cid): an odorless, colorless chemical that comes from ergot, a fungus that grows on grains.
  • Meth can quickly be made with battery acid, antifreeze and drain cleaner.
  • Heroin is highly addictive and withdrawal extremely painful.
  • Ecstasy comes in a tablet form and is usually swallowed. The pills come in different colours and sizes and are often imprinted with a picture or symbol1. It can also come as capsules, powder or crystal/rock.
  • The word cocaine refers to the drug in a powder form or crystal form.
  • Meperidine (brand name Demerol) and hydromorphone (Dilaudid) come in tablets and propoxyphene (Darvon) in capsules, but all three have been known to be crushed and injected, snorted or smoked.
  • Never, absolutely NEVER, buy drugs over the internet. It is not as safe as walking into a pharmacy. You honestly do not know what you are going to get or who is going to intervene in the online message.
  • Stimulants are found in every day household items such as tobacco, nicotine and daytime cough medicine.
  • Alcohol is a sedative.
  • 2.3% of eighth graders, 5.2% of tenth graders and 6.5% of twelfth graders had tried Ecstasy at least once.
  • The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime estimated the worldwide production of amphetamine-type stimulants, which includes methamphetamine, at nearly 500 metric tons a year, with 24.7 million abusers.
