  • The 2013 World Drug Report reported that Afghanistan is the leading producer and cultivator of opium worldwide, manufacturing 74 percent of illicit opiates. Mexico, however, is the leading supplier to the United States.
  • These physical signs are more difficult to identify if the tweaker has been using a depressant such as alcohol; however, if the tweaker has been using a depressant, his or her negative feelings - including paranoia and frustration - can increase substantially.
  • The National Institute of Justice research shows that, compared with traditional criminal justice strategies, drug treatment and other costs came to about $1,400 per drug court participant, saving the government about $6,700 on average per participant.

  • Deaths from Alcohol poisoning are most common among the ages 35-64.
